Conservancy will hold river clean-up

From staff reports

The Allegheny Valley Conservancy is planning its annual Allegheny River clean-up project and is looking for volunteers to help.

The conservancy and its partners will clean debris from the river between Henrys Bend to Rockmere on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The event will start at 9 a.m. and end at about 1 or 2 p.m.

Those who participate should plan to get dirty, get wet and have fun while improving the river, organizers said.

Pre-registration is requested and can be done by emailing names and contact information by Aug. 19 to avcinfo@windstream.net.

Volunteers can also register the day of the event, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants will be able to maintain social distance and only float and pick up trash in familiar groups.

Volunteers must comply with all state Fish & Boat Commission laws and regulations.

The starting point for the clean-up project is located at 117 Oak St., Oil City.

Conservancy board members will be waiting at the Oil City Boat Club in Rockmere to collect all the trash removed from the river and provide refreshments and prizes.

Conservancy volunteers will also shuttle participants back to the starting point to pick up their vehicles.
