BUTLER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania community college campus has been closed because of the superbug known as MRSA.
Officials at Butler County Community College closed the campus Tuesday night and say it won’t reopen until Thursday.
The school about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh says it has contacted the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The campus will be disinfected while it is closed in hopes no one will contract the skin infection, which is known to resist many antibiotics.
The bacteria was found in the school’s Field House. It is often spread in areas where athletes are in close contact with one another.
