Several area churches have planned special services to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Here is a look:
Bethel United Methodist, Oil City
Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 11 p.m. today at the church, located at 486 Colbert Ave., Oil City. The Christmas Day service will start at 11:15 a.m. New Year’s Day service will start at 11:15 a.m.
Calvary United Methodist, Oil City
A Christmas Eve service will be held at 7 p.m. today, which will include the Prophecy of the Birth of Jesus through readings and traditional Christmas hymns as well as special music. A Celebration of Christmas Carols will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Christmas Day.
Christ Lutheran, Oil City
A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church, 1029 Grandview Road in Oil City.
Music will be provided by Bob Kay and Kathy Atts. Cathy Kluck will play organ selections. The service is open to the community, and the church is handicapped accessible.
First United Methodist, Franklin
A candlelight service will be held at 10 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church at 1102 Liberty St., Franklin.
Good Hope and Zion Lutheran churches
A candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 800 Moran St., Oil City.
A candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, 207 State St., Oil City.
The churches will hold a joint Christmas Day service at 11 a.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church.
There will be no Sunday School Dec. 25.
Heckathorn Church
A candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Heckathorn Church, 369 Heckathorn Church Road, Seneca. Pamela Mahle will provide the music.
Another service will be held at 11 p.m. today at the church with music featuring Barbara and Olga Schilk.
The services are open to the public.
Kennerdell Church of God
A candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Kennerdell Church of God at 151 Watson Ave, Kennerdell.
Living Word Church
Pastor Travis Earp will bring the message titled “Do You Have Room for Him?”
New Trinity United Methodist Church
The New Trinity United Methodist Church will celebrate the birth of Jesus with a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. today at Mt. Joy Church, 159 Mt. Joy Road, Knox.
A Christmas service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Mt. Joy Church.
The services are open to public.
Park Hill First Church of God, Parker
A Christmas Eve service will be held at 6 p.m. today. This will be a casual service with Communion and candle lighting. On Christmas Day, the church will hold its worship service at 10:45 a.m. The church is located at 3314 Lime Plant Road, Parker.
Plumer United Methodist
Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. today at the church, located at 51 Petroleum Center Road. New Year’s Day service will be held at 8:30 a.m.
St. John’s Episcopal, Franklin
The church will hold a Christmas Mass of the Angels, a family service of carols and readings with Holy Communion, at 5 p.m. today. A Christmas Mass of the Shepherds will be held at 10 p.m. This will be a solemn service of carols and readings with Holy Communion. On Christmas morning, a Christmas Mass of the Incarnation, a said service with readings and Holy Communion, will start at 10 a.m. On Sunday, Jan. 1, Christmas lessons and carols celebrating the birth of Jesus will be held with Holy Communion.
St. Joseph, Lucinda
St. Joseph Church will hold a Christmas Eve Mass at 6 p.m. today. Carols will begin around 5:30 p.m.
The church’s Christmas Day Mass will begin at 9 a.m.
The church is located at 94 Rectory Lane, Lucinda.
St. Michael, Fryburg
St. Michael’s Church will hold a Christmas Eve Mass at 4 p.m. today. A Midnight Mass with carols will also be held on Christmas Eve.
The church is located at 18765 Route 208, Fryburg.
Trinity United Methodist, Oil City
Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 8 p.m. today at the church, located at 2 Center St., Oil City. A First Night Celebration will be held at the church with food sales starting at 5 p.m. There will be music by Cahal Dunne, a puppet show, face painting and more. New Year’s Day service will begin at 10 a.m.
