When Fairview Swiss Cheese in Mercer County became the unwitting recipient of an 11,000-gallon milk order, owner Rick Koller decided to hold a cheese sale designed to benefit the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors project.

wwpThe sale was held between July 6 and 14 at the retail location at 1734 Perry Highway in Fredonia, Mercer County, and $10,000 was raised by selling the cheese at $3.99 a pound.

Koller said the reason he chose to help Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors was because of his involvement with the Knights of Columbus.

As a Knights member, Koller said he’s always been involved with charitable action for both veterans and children.

“Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors is a project that I believe does great things for our veterans,” Koller said.

“As a patriotic American, you take pride in our veterans’ past service, but it’s just as important to take pride in helping them after their service is complete,” he added.

More than 1,200 pounds of Swiss cheese produced from the surplus milk was sold, and all the profits were matched and donated by Fairview Swiss Cheese.

“It’s great to know small communities can band together to make an impact,” Koller said.
