Gifted students at Cranberry High School put a virtual chess tournament in checkmate following several rounds of concentration, victory, and achievement of high rankings.
On the mornings of Monday, Nov. 9, and Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the school’s library, a virtual chess tournament was conducted in place of the traditional competition held at the Riverview Intermediate Unit #6 due to Cranberry’s yellow phase status from COVID-19.
Students from Cranberry’s gifted program were selected as the chess competitors. Teacher Gayle Mitchell was in charge of the event.
On Nov. 9, Ethan Merryman came out on top as the winner of the Senior High I.U. 6. Second place was secured by Trevor Olson in the Virtual Chess Tournament.
On Nov. 10, second place was won by Mariner Perry for the Junior High I.U 6 Virtual Chess Tournament. Alongside him, Jordan Zerbe placed 4th, just shy out of the medals.
