Channellock closed ‘until further notice’

From staff reports

One of Crawford County’s biggest employers, Channellock, has temporarily closed the doors of its Meadville facility along South Main Street after one of its workers tested positive for the coronavirus.

The closure was announced this week.

A statement on the company’s website indicated the company would stay closed “until further notice” in an effort to keep its employees safe and well.

Following is the company’s COVID-19 response as posted at www.channellock.com:

“Although Channellock, Inc., has taken extraordinary steps to keep our employees safe from the spread of COVID-19, we have confirmed that one of our employees has tested positive for coronavirus. We believe this is an isolated case. However, the health and safety of everyone at Channellock is extremely important to us and the company has decided to temporarily shut down operations until further notice.”

The Meadville-based company employs more than 350 full-time workers who manufacture and market over 75 varieties of pliers. The company ships its tools to 45 countries around the world.

No one from the company answered a phone call from the newspaper for comment on Friday.
