From staff reports
Changes have been announced for the Junior Olympics and children’s parade at this year’s Oil Heritage Festival in Oil City.
Junior Olympics for ages 3-14 will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the Oil City High School track and football field.
Registration is at 5:30 p.m.
A hot dog picnic will follow the event.
Returning this year is the long jump for the older age groups, and an expanded obstacle course is planned.
Volunteers are still needed to help with the event.
Ribbons will be given to boys and girls in each event and age group.
The children’s Oil Heritage parade will be held Thursday, July 20. Registration is from 4:45 to 5 p.m. with the parade beginning promptly at 5:15 p.m.
Organizer Patti Shontz and the Chamber have created four new categories for this year’s event — patriotic/historic figures, sports, animals and cartoon characters/superheroes.
Parade participants should meet in the parking lot of the Crossing Free Methodist Church at 202 Wilson Ave.
The parade will follow East Second Street to Central Avenue, then head down to the Central Avenue Plaza where the judging will take place.
Ribbons will be given to first, second and third place in each category.
