Cemetery tour to showcase those that were ‘the backbone of the town’

The Heritage Society of Oil City will host its annual Grove Hill Cemetery walking tour this Saturday, offering a historical look at notable figures from the town’s past, such as firefighters, business owners, and Civil War veterans. Actors from Franklin’s Barrow-Civic Theatre will perform in period costumes, telling stories of prominent individuals, including the city’s second female doctor and a father-son team who crafted gravestones. Kay Dawson and other guides will also share brief biographies along the route, with a surprise guest appearance planned for baby boomers familiar with Oil City. The event is free, with tours at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. In case of rain, the tours will be rescheduled for September 15.
