The camp is for children ages 5-12. The week-long, 3 1/2 hours a day, camp includes classes in art, theater, music and dance. The camp will end with a Friends and Family Showcase featuring a Doodle Gallery and a performance featuring the campers’ work from the week. The theme for this summer is “Fantasy and Legend.” The performance will include demonstrations from all classes.
Registration forms, tuition and scheduling can be found at www.studio22dance.net and on the Camp-a-Doodle Facebook page. Forms can also be found at Studio 22 Dance Academy, 340 Liberty St. in Franklin.
The Camp-a-Doodle philosophy is that the arts hold a very important place in our children’s development. Through the arts, children learn to process and appropriately express emotion. Through the arts, children learn about who they are and how they relate to the world around them.
Founder and director Janene Michael obtained a Master’s Degree in Acting and Directing and ran a small children’s theater program at Texas Woman’s University for two years. She has run many types of acting classes and workshops for colleges, universities and renaissance festivals throughout the country. In addition, Janene coaches acting for both Studio 22 and Venango Youth Choir. Locally, she performs and teaches private acting classes.
Returning this year is Kristy Heller, an artist and crafter who paints, designs jewelry and writes. This will be Kristy’s fourth year with Camp-a-Doodle.
Also returning this year as a student dance teacher is former camper Skylar Shields. She has danced for seven years and taught for three. Skylar says her favorite thing about teaching is to inspire and teach life skills through the arts.
Sarah Huey, a college student and former student teacher at Studio 22, is also returning this year. Sarah has been dancing for 14 years and has taught ballet, jazz and hip hop.
