The Venango County Commissioners voted Monday to issue a burn ban for all of Venango County until further notice.
Due to the lack of precipitation in the area over the last few weeks and the increase in brush fires, commissioners stated that the burn ban will be in effect until the area receives significant rainfall, according to Deputy Director of Venango County Emergency Services Patrick Servey.
“A burn ban is a legal restriction put in place to protect the environment and public safety during dry weather conditions,” said Servey.
This comes in correlation with the National Weather Service issuing a special weather statement warning of increased chance of risk of fire due to low relative humidity and wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour.
Despite the rainfall that is predicted late Tuesday night into Wednesday and the possibility of rainfall this weekend, it is uncertain if there will be enough rainfall to remove the burn ban.
If someone is caught burning during the ban, they could face legal issues.
“I encourage folks to take this seriously to prevent any accidents or legal involvement,” said Servey.
