Board blocks advancement of Title IX changes in North Clarion schools

The North Clarion School District Board voted 5-4 against approving changes to its Title IX policy, which would have expanded protections to include sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy status. Some board members, including Garrett Carulli, opposed the changes due to moral concerns and ongoing lawsuits challenging similar revisions. Superintendent Steve Young noted that while the Pennsylvania School Boards Association recommended the changes, the district risks losing federal funding if they aren’t adopted, as federal funds make up 18% of the budget. Despite the decision, the district will maintain its current Title IX policy and continue providing a safe educational environment.
