The annual Polar Plunge into Justus Lake at Two Mile Run County Park was held in very cold conditions Saturday as it was about 18 degrees in the air with a water temperature of 32.

More than 100 participants had pre-registered before the plunge, and the line of people registering Saturday made this the biggest turnout yet for the plunge.

Most people who took the dip quickly ran in and out of the lake and then sprinted for their cars or the locker room.

All proceeds from the plunge and other park-sponsored events go into the park’s improvement fund that is used to improve amenities around the park. Those include children’s play areas, fishing access, beach improvements and lots of other things.

And the funds also support the many programs and events hosted at the park.

New this year during the plunge was a “chicken walk” for those who didn’t want to jump in the lake. Those people instead walked down to the water and dipped their toes in the water.
