MaryBeth Bamat of the Quehanna area in central Pennsylvania presented her Farmer Pete series to students in kindergarten through second grade at Sandycreek Elementary School.
The books provide teaching tools for self-esteem, confidence and environmentalism, and Bamat read the books and discussed feelings and coping methods when dealing with each other or events.
One of Bamat’s books is about children with autism, and the story offers methods of introducing children to the flapping motion of a child with autism through something as beautiful as ducks drying in the sun.
Bamat is working on two new books that are about a frog in the mud and a snowman.
The author discussed the process of writing a rough draft and the final copy before she sends a book to a publishing company.
The school library has acquired a set of Bamat’s books for the students to enjoy.
