Astronomical Society to host virtual event on eclipses

From staff reports

The Oil Region Astronomical Society will host a virtual public night at 7 p.m. Saturday that will include a presentation by Astronomical Society member and former professor and planetarium director Gary Purinton.

The presentation will explain the science around eclipses in general, details about the April 8 total solar eclipse, the challenges of photographing a solar eclipse and the efforts by the 2024 Eclipse Megamovie project to organize and train volunteers and create a time-lapse movie from images of the corona taken along the eclipse path as the moon’s shadow crosses the U.S.

The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in participating must register in advance, and a link to the virtual event will then be emailed separately.
