Asbestos discovery during Clarion County Courthouse project slows progress

The rehabilitation project at Clarion County Courthouse faced a minor delay due to the unexpected discovery of asbestos in the basement floor tiles and old pipes. Clarion Environmental Services is managing the asbestos removal. Despite this setback, the project, led by Fred L. Burns Contracting, is progressing well, with significant demolition work completed and historic brickwork and artifacts uncovered. Installation of a new HVAC system is underway, with plans to order a new generator in September. The project, funded by a $900,000 RACP grant, aims for completion in March. In the meantime, courthouse staff have been relocated, and additional improvements, including handicapped parking and a fire suppression system, are planned. The county is also seeking a new manager for the Clarion County Airport following Don Kimball’s resignation.
