From staff reports
A maker event, including demonstrations from various artisans, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Forest Scientific in the Tionesta Business Park.
The event, which is open and free to the public, will include live demonstrations of welding, pottery, jewelry-making, sticker design, basket weaving, painting and more, according to the Forest County Business Alliance, which is hosting the event.
Attendees will also get a look at the inner workings of Forest Scientific, a company that builds CNC machines, laser and plasma cutters, transportable maker labs and more that are used worldwide in businesses, schools and museums.
In addition, Brian Slawin, of Ben Franklin Technology Partners, will provide information about funding available for start-ups and new innovations.
A makerspace is a workspace for making, learning, exploring and sharing, the release said, with the goal of providing both shared workspace and equipment for people who make things and lack adequate space or access to equipment to produce or develop new products or work.
This could include artists, product artisans (food, soaps, candles, etc.), woodworkers, musicians and vocalists, technology developers, and many other categories of makers, the release said.
Community input will help the project’s implementation committee determine which equipment and supplies this space should have, how it should be structured, programming to offer, and more, the release said.
Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about makerspaces as well as provide input.
