Applicants sought for Catholic Heart Work Camp projects

From staff reports

Catholic Heart Work Camp volunteers will be returning to Oil City this summer, and organizers are ready to receive applications from homeowners who need assistance completing projects on their properties.

The camp, scheduled from July 23-26, is coming to Oil City for the sixth straight year and will be based at Venango Catholic High School. Hundreds of volunteers and group leaders from several states will work on dozens of home repair projects while they are here.

Work includes interior cleaning, drywall repair, painting, minor home upgrades and improvements, yard work, exterior painting on single story homes and removal of bushes and debris.

Teams cannot remove flooring or ceilings, scrape or paint over lead paint, remove asbestos, remove black mold or remove trees larger than saplings. There are also height limits for exterior work.

Applicants must be Venango County residents, and no rental properties or commercial properties are eligible.

Paper applications are available at several locations. They include the Oil City and Franklin YMCAs, the Oil City YWCA, the Oil City and Franklin libraries, St. Elizabeth Center in Oil City, Hope 21 Ministry in the National Transit Building in Oil City and the St. John Episcopal Church food pantry in Franklin.

Applications can also be filled out at http://bit.ly/2f5ZPjO.

Paper applications must be mailed to Venango Catholic High School, 1505 W. First St., Oil City, 16301. The applications should be received by April 30.

All applications will be reviewed and then assigned to an assessment team. Homeowners will be contacted to set up assessment dates.

Applicants will receive a phone call in late May or early June to let them know if their application has been approved. Reminder phone calls will be made the first week in July.

Camp directors this year are Theresa Zlotnicki, Sean Graham and Nick Moran.
