Annual Good Friday Laymen’s Service planned in OC

The 56th Good Friday Laymen’s Service will be held April 7 in Oil City.

The event begins at 6 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall on Petroleum Street with a breakfast.

Lou Slautterback will preside at the breakfast.

Breakfast tickets are $10 and are available at the Knights of Columbus door, Friedhaber’s Appliance in Oil City, Somers Family Dentistry in Seneca, and from Scott Walters and Lou Slautterback in Franklin.

Then a worship service begins at 7 a.m. in Grace United Methodist Church. Steve Luxbacher will direct the men’s choir and Joe Emanuele will be the accompanist.

Matt LaVerde will serve as worship leader.

A choir rehearsal will be held the night before, April 6, at 8:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Anyone interested in singing with the choir should use the Google form at goodfridaylaymen.org.

Ron Marsh will be the speaker at the service. The theme of his message will be “What Christ Did on the Cross for You.”

After graduating from Cranberry High School, Marsh worked as a logger and then served four years as a fuel specialist in the Air Force.

Marsh is also a Sunday School teacher. He as his wife, Sandy, live in Oil City and have two daughters.
