93 new virus cases reported in tri-county area

The state Department of Health on Friday announced 93 new cases of COVID-19 were reported from the tri-county area.

The state said Forest County reported 70 new confirmed cases, Venango County reported 13 new cases (eight confirmed and five probable), and Clarion County reported 10 new cases (eight confirmed and two probable).

Forest County, the state said, also converted two probable cases to confirmed, giving the county a cumulative total of 1,321 cases (1,271 confirmed and 50 probable). The county’s total number of deaths stands at 16.

Venango County, the state said, now has a cumulative total of 3,061 cases (2,502 confirmed and 559 probable). The county’s total number of deaths stands at 75.

Clarion County, the state said, now has a cumulative total of 2,453 cases (1,620 confirmed and 833 probable). The county’s total number of deaths stands at 73.

Elsewhere in the region

Mercer County, the state said, reported three additional virus-related deaths on Friday, giving the county 220 total deaths.

The county, the state said, also reported 42 new cases (30 confirmed and 12 probable), giving the county a cumulative total of 7,436 cases (5,995 confirmed and 1,441 probable).

Crawford County, the state said, reported one additional virus-related death, giving the county 128 total deaths.

The county, the state said, also reported 40 new cases (35 confirmed and five probable), giving the county a cumulative total of 5,886 cases (4,751 confirmed and 1,135 probable).

Statewide statistics

– The state on Friday reported 9,643 new statewide positive cases, 3,607 more than the number reported Thursday, raising the cumulative total to 834,048 cases (726,031 confirmed and 108,017 probable).

The state said 4,052 of the new cases reported were “backlogged antigen testing data from urgent care centers.”

“We will continue to report on back logged data from urgent care centers over the next couple of days,” the state said.

– Statewide, there are 3,691 individuals with COVID-19 who are hospitalized, and 753 of those patients are in intensive care units, according to the state. Most of the patients hospitalized are age 65 or older.

– Statewide there were 159 new virus-related deaths reported Friday, raising the total to 21,462, the state said. Most of the cumulative deaths have occurred in patients age 65 or older, according to the state.

Care facilities

– A nursing and personal care facilities list, a cumulative table compiled by the state that is updated daily, shows Clarion County stands at 240 resident cases, 98 employee cases and 38 deaths among six unnamed facilities.

That same chart shows Venango County subtracted one resident case and one death. The county now has 225 resident cases, 45 employee cases and 29 deaths among nine unnamed facilities.

The chart also shows Forest County added three deaths. The county now has 118 resident cases, 26 employee cases and 17 deaths at one unnamed facility.

– Statewide data on nursing and personal care facilities shows there are now 62,798 resident cases and 11,930 cases among employees for a total of 74,728 cases at 1,541 distinct facilities in all 67 counties.

– The state said there are now a total of 11,353 deaths that have been reported from nursing and personal care facilities.

Area health systems

Butler Health System on Friday reported Clarion Hospital had collected 11,364 specimens for COVID-19 testing through Thursday, including 9,615 tests at the hospital’s outdoor collection site. A total of 1,796 tests were positive for the virus.

As of Friday, the hospital has two COVID-19 in-patients (one confirmed and one suspected).
