More than 150 cyclists participated in the first Roughneck Gravel Roubaix bike race on Saturday.
The event’s starting point was centered around the expansive Titusville Iron Works Tap House. The race took participants through Crawford, Venango, Forest, and Warren counties.
Cyclists launched at four separate times, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and racing on either a 100-, 75-, 40- or 12-mile course. Some of it was paved and a good portion was on dirt/gravel roads.
According to one cyclist, the course was smooth until the BMX track, where mud flew due to the wet terrain.
Event organizer and Oil Region native D. Adam Diem spent almost a year organizing the race. His hope for next year is to draw up to 500 participants.
