Workshops scheduled at the Barrow

The Barrow Theatre Institute will hold several spring workshops starting in mid to late April.

Pre-registration is required for all courses except Fitness for Actors. Early bird registration rates run through Monday, April 9. All pricing includes the entire workshop and any materials provided.

Playwriting and Directing for senior youths will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays starting April 17. Nicole Powell will instruct this class for students who will work on pieces of writing they’ve already drafted to create and develop an advanced original one-act play, as well as explore the basics of directing their work. Participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to submit their scripts for the chance to be performed in the Youth One-Act Festival, July 5-7. Early bird registration costs $50 and regular registration costs $60.

Voice II for youths will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays starting April 18 in the Little Theatre. Instructor Zachary Covington will help students develop the basic skills of healthy tone production. Attendees will focus on skills including posture, breath control, free-tone production, vocal support, ear training and artistry. All students should be prepared to sing in groups and individually. Early bird registration costs $50 and regular registration costs $60.

Building an Audition Portfolio for adults and those over 15 years old will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting April 18 in the Little Theatre. This workshop, instructed by Zachary Covington, will teach participants techniques used by acting professionals, including song choice and monologue, preparing a resume, cold reading, voice projection, filling out paperwork, interacting with auditors, and dance audition tips. Early bird registration costs $50 and regular registration costs $60.

Improv-ination for children will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays starting April 21 in the Little Theatre. Instructor Deanna Wolfgong will focus on using improv and imagination to introduce students to the world of theater. Participants will use warm-ups and theater games to explore their vocal and physical instrument and more. Early bird registration costs $50 and regular registration costs $60.

Fitness for Actors for adults and those over 15 years old will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting April 24 in the Little Theatre. Instructor Joni Hulse is an expert in getting people motivated and moving. She uses floor drumming, dancing, and a lot of cardio to help individuals achieve a great workout without getting bored. Her classes require no experience, and will help anyone – actors and non-actors alike – condition their bodies. Early bird registration costs $50 and regular registration costs $60, or $20 per class.
