Woman facing several theft charges in two cases

A Franklin woman is facing theft charges in two different cases.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint that on Feb. 8, a Franklin woman called police to report she had come home and found Renee Knight, 41, going through her personal items in her bedroom.

Knight didn’t have permission to be in the residence on Myrtle Street, the complaint said.

The woman said that after Knight left, coins, jewelry and other personal items were missing, the complaint said. Knight was later found in possession of the items by Oil City police, according to the complaint.

Police said in another criminal complaint that in August 2020, they received information from an incarcerated man who said someone had opened two credit cards in his name and he believed it was Knight.

During the course of their investigation, Franklin police found surveillance video of Knight making purchases at area gas stations at the same times and places where several purchases were made fraudulently with the credit cards, according to the complaint.

Charges against Knight in connection with the two cases include burglary-overnight accommodation, no person present, criminal trespass-enter structure, theft by unlawful taking of movable property, identity theft, forgery-unauthorized act in writing and access device is counterfeit, altered, incomplete.
