Tuesday’s severe storms caused widespread damages in region

Severe storms Tuesday evening left some damage in their wake around Venango and Clarion counties.

Trees falling due to high winds – up to 60 miles per hour at times, according to the National Weather Service – seemed to be the biggest problem.

Calls came one after another for a time as the storm worked its way through the county.

A tree fell into a house on Lakeview Drive shortly after 4 p.m., according to Venango County 911. Cooperstown volunteer firefighters responded, but no fire developed, according to dispatchers.

Two minutes later, dispatchers were called about a tree falling into a mobile home on Deckard’s Run Road in Utica. Utica volunteer firefighters responded to that call.

On Bredinsburg Road, a tree fell onto power lines and caught on fire, according to 911 dispatchers. Penelec and Seneca volunteer firefighters responded.

Several other incidents were called in throughout the evening, dispatchers said. Among them were calls for municipal fire and police to respond to low-hanging wires, various road hazards due to the wind and heavy rain, and fallen trees.

In Clarion County, dispatchers said trees down were called in from Salem Township, Ashland Township, Clarion Township, New Bethlehem Borough, Elk Township, Redbank Township, Barnett Township (Forest County), Emlenton Borough and Porter Township.

Route 28 was closed for several hours for power lines down across the roadway.

As of Wednesday morning, dispatchers for both counties said no ongoing utility disruptions or road closures remained and the majority of the damages had been addressed.
