From staff reports

Officials representing townships of the second class in Venango County will meet Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Oakland Township fire hall for the 108th annual county convention.

The purpose of the annual convention is to inform township officials with up-to-date information to help them better serve the residents they represent and to give leaders an opportunity to exchange ideas on local government issues.

The convention will feature a wide range of speakers, including Holly Fishel, director of research and policy development for the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors. Fishel will talk about legislation affecting townships of the second class, association programs and services for these townships and issues of major importance to townships and their residents.

The association represents the commonwealth’s 1,454 townships of the second class, 20 of which are located in Venango County.

Brian McNulty, a district executive from the state Department of Transportation will also be among the speakers. Others include the Venango County commissioners; Bonnie Summers and Vince Witherup, who represent the Venango County Lank Bank; Charles Stowe; and Jon Geyer.

Stowe serves on the executive board of the state association of township supervisors. Geyer represents the Pennsylvania WoodMobile.
