The Long and the Short of it

Precious Paws Animal Rescue has Stubs looking for a home. Clarion PAWS has some “purrfect” pals for those looking for felines. Tri-County Animal Rescue Center, the Venango County Humane Society and Clarion PUPS have some awesome adoptables as well. And last but not least, there is lots of events and fundraising planned.

The long and the short of it

Theresa Weldon, with Precious Paws Animal Rescue in Franklin, posted this week about canine Stubs.

“Stubs is still looking for the right home! He’s a very sweet lovable dog (unless you are a cat),” Weldon posted on the rescue’s Facebook pages.

“He’s good with other dogs, but probably should not be around little kids and definitely no cats (he will kill them),” the post said. “He’s a Jack Russell-bull terrier mix. Like a longer, stockier Jack Russell.”

Meanwhile, the rescue is preparing for its fall craft fair.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Rocky Grove fire hall, 29 Shuffstall St. in Franklin. The fair will feature more than 50 vendors, baked goods, food, raffle baskets, a 50-50 drawing, a pet photographer and more.

A rabies and microchip clinic will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Shots are $10 each.

Those who take a bag of dog or cat food, cat litter, a cleaning product or makes a donation will recieve a ticket for a chance to win a door prize.

Proceeds from the fair benefit the Precious Paws Animal Rescue, the Oscar Fund and the Spay Neuter Your Pet program.

The rescue is also looking for raffle basket donations, gift cards and bottles of liquor – for a basket, not for the volunteers – for the craft show. It is seeking baked goods for two bake sales, one on Sept. 30 at the craft show and one scheduled for Nov. 1.

The rescue could also use scoopable cat litter, kitten chow and canned cat food, paper towels, Arm & Hammer laundry detergent (liquid preferred), stamps and small plastic kitten crates.

Those who wish to donate can contact Theresa Weldon at  (972) 281-9857.

More information about the rescue and its fundraisers is available by calling (814) 671-9827.

More information about the group and its low-cost spay/neuter program, SNYP, can be found online at pparfranklin.com or on the group’s Facebook page.

Purrfect personalities

Clarion P.A.W.S. in Shippenville posted about calicos Marshmallow and Sydney on its Facebook page.

Janae

Janae

“Janae has quite the big personality. This little girl was found on her own almost a year ago. She was shy and not sure how to play with the other kittens once she was old enough to be with them,” the shelter posted on Facebook. “Janae might not play but she loves to watch her roommates, the birds and chipmunks, and of course our volunteers.”

“She would be the purrfect companion for someone so enjoys staying in binge watching shows on Netflix,” the shelter said.

Marshmallow

Marshmallow

Calicos Marshmallow and Sydney are both from one of the rescue’s most recent TNR projects.

Syndey

Sydney

Both girls are older and had to have teeth pulled so PAWS could not release them.

“These girls are very sweet and looking for a furrever home. They are used to living outdoors but have found that living indoors is much nicer,” the shelter posted on Facebook.

Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.

Tiny trauma patient

Skye’s Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Harrisville is caring for what might be one of its smallest patients.

Fledgling hummingbird being treated at Skye’s Spirit.

“This beautiful fledgling hummingbird came in after it was found sitting on a truck unable to fly. It’s showing signs of head trauma, most likely flew into the windshield. It is eating well and starting to fly a bit,” the center posted on its Facebook page.

The center was hoping to get the bird back out quickly so it can migrate.

“If not, we’ll have to over winter for a spring release,” the center said in a Facebook post.

The center is still desperately trying to raise funds for the wildlife it cares for and currently has a match going.

People can donate at  www.fundrazr.com.

Donations also can be made through the center’s website at www.skyes-spirit.com or mailed to SSWRC, 889 Farren Surrena Rd., Harrisville, PA, 16038.
