Technology center student wins welding competition

Matthew Woolcock, a Cranberry High School senior who attends Venango Technology Center, received the first place Region 1 award in the James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation Welding

Project Competition.

Region 1 consists of 16 states across the northeastern U.S.

The contest required drafting, building, and supplying a step-by-step procedure for a project. Woolcock received the award for designing and welding a lawn roller.

He was awarded a $500 check along with a Lincoln Electric 140T mig welder. An additional welder was donated to the technology center as a gift for Woolcock’s accomplishment.

Woolcock, who is the son of Jason and Michelle Woolcock, plans to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Travis Crate is his instructor at the technology center.
