Sugarcreek police warn of scam involving rental car searches

Sugarcreek police have alerted residents about a new scam involving fraudulent rental car websites. Scammers are creating fake internet links with 1-800 and 1-888 numbers, connecting callers to operators who claim to represent local used car dealers authorized to book rentals. These operators collect credit card information and charge fees without providing any rental car. Police advise residents to verify links before clicking, use actual business names in the address bar, and consider using gift cards for transactions to reduce the risk of being scammed. For renting vehicles, contacting rental agencies or authorized travel agencies directly is recommended.
