Sugarcreek police looking for man charged with rape

From staff reports

Sugarcreek Borough police are searching for a man facing several charges, including the rape of a Sugarcreek girl.

William Caleb Clayton

Police said they believe William Caleb Clayton, 19, of Ellwood City, obtained a ride to the Grove City Outlets in an attempt to elude police after he discovered police planned to arrest him on a warrant.

“We interviewed him on Friday and planned to follow up with him early this week, but he reportedly told some friends he was staying with that he needed to get out of town because he was going to be arrested,” Sugarcreek police chief Bob Wenner said.

Clayton has been entered into the National Crime Information Center, police said.

Police said Clayton has been charged with rape, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, solicitation for unlawful contact with a minor and solicitation for sexual abuse of children, and two counts each of unlawful contact with a minor and sexual abuse of children.

Police said the charges stem from incidents in June in which Clayton engaged in intercourse with a minor female without her consent and solicited nude photos from several other minor females.

The investigation is continuing, and police are asking anyone with information to call the department at (814) 437-3703.
