Sugarcreek council updated on work at original Kmart

From staff reports

Sugarcreek Borough Council members were given an update Wednesday on renovation progress at the original Kmart building on Allegheny Boulevard in Reno.

Greg Lander of Klapec Trucking Co. said the company is in talks with people who are interested in using the building.

The borough leased the property to Klapec in 2016.

Lander said Klapec plans to put a new roof on the building, remove a glass wall, add a brick wall and “get rid of all the uglies.”

“I’m glad you got it, there was a lot of stuff in that building,” councilman Matt Carlson said.

In other business Wednesday, council unanimously approved the purchase of a $60,000 2007 Johnston VT-650 street sweeper.

Borough manager Joe Sporer told council Shaffer Run Road has re-opened after being closed for maintenance due to the replacement of a pipe.

“Thank you for your patience anyone who uses that road,” Sporer said. “It was a little more intensive than we had planned.”

Sporer also said the borough is still taking applications for housing rehabilitation projects. Anyone with questions can call the borough office at (814) 432-4717.
