Students moving forward with Barrow mural

Franklin High School students are moving forward on their mural project as they print their design for the side of the Barrow-Civic Theatre in downtown Franklin.

Technology teacher Alyssa Mansfield has recently been working with her students to print the mural design.

The mural is made up of 48 square images, and Mansfield said if everything prints correctly, her students will print about four square images during one class period.

Mansfield believes that if her class keeps going at the rate they are, the template should be printed in time for art teacher Rachelle Surrena’s students to start painting.

Technology director Giancarlo Delmo, art teacher Darrellyn Freeman, Surrena and Mansfield were responsible for creating the template, Mansfield said.

“The students then fit several square images into the template and then feed it into the printer. Then they label the pieces they print for the art students to paint. It’s very simple,” Mansfield said.

The prime polytab material that is being used isn’t designed for the printer Mansfield’s class is using, so they had to brainstorm to make it work.

Whenever Mansfield’s class received the material, the students had to cut the material down to make it go through the printer and also apply primer on it so the art students can paint the mural.

Sophomore Devin Umstead said this is the first step of the mural he’s been involved with and that “it’s been a really fast and easy process.”
