Students lend a hand for Empty Bowls

Henry Jiang, right, and Seth Mellring, sixth graders at Cranberry Elementary School, work on glazing ceramic bowls for the seventh annual Community Services of Venango County Empty Bowls event. Students from area schools made the bowls that will be used during the April 9 event at Wanango Country Club. Ten chefs will create special soups for the fund-raiser that seeks to raise awareness of the problem of hunger in the community while raising money for the two Community Services-operated food pantries. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at csvenango.com or at the Venango or Franklin Chamber of Commerce offices. Children under 5 are admitted free. (By Richard Sayer)
