From staff reports

A program titled “Social Media and Youth Tech Trends For Adults” will be presented by Ryan Klingensmith at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Oil City Area High School auditorium.

The training defines the categories of social networking that parents, guardians and teachers should be aware of and listening for with their students and children.

The presentation will review image boards, untraceable testing and sexting, Internet predators, gossip and rumor spreading sites, video chatting, blogs, eating disorders, self-harm and suicide.

The most current social media sites such as Instagram, Tumblr, Kik, Snapchat and Ask.fm will be defined, and youth culture and mental health practices on these sites and apps will be discussed.

The presentation is designed to raise awareness of student culture on the internet and how adults can communicate and educate with youth to be responsible digital citizens. The program is free to attend.
