Silver Cornet Band offering summer junior program

The Franklin Silver Cornet Band is again offering its Junior Silver Cornet Band, a summer outreach program geared toward youth musicians who are in fifth through eighth grade.

Musicians will complete four rehearsals before performing during the Silver Cornet Band’s concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Bandstand Park in Franklin.

The rehearsals will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 11-14, at First Baptist Church in Franklin.

The director of the junior band is Dan Cartwright, middle and high school band director for Oil City School District.

Participants in the program will not only practice music for the concert, but they also will enjoy snacks, games and will meet students from other schools.

A registration fee of $25 is requested but can be waived if needed. Registration forms can be obtained by emailing the band at franklinsilvercornetband@gmail.com or by going to the band’s Facebook page.

The registration deadline is Friday, June 1.
