Shots fired during dispute; New Bethlehem man charged

From staff reports

A New Bethlehem man was arrested after gunshots were fired during a domestic dispute Sunday night on Shrub Road in Porter Township.

Clarion state police said Zachary Unger, 29, is accused of choking, kicking and threatening his father, as well as firing a gunshot at a vehicle in the driveway.

Unger’s father told police that Unger had been driving a Jeep around in the yard while intoxicated, according to a criminal complaint filed by state police.

When Unger’s father tried to stop him, Unger tried to choke him to the point of unconsciousness before kicking him down into a ravine, the complaint said.

Unger then left the residence, according to the complaint. He returned later and threatened to kill his father and then stood on the porch and fired two shots with a handgun, one of which struck the Jeep, the complaint said.

Unger left the residence and later was taken into custody near the intersection of Curtisville and Rockville roads.

He is charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and criminal mischief.

Unger was arraigned before district judge Timothy Schill and placed in the Clarion County jail on a $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.
