Search for missing man continues

John Stegall

From staff reports

Oil City police are continuing their search for a man who went missing last week from his Plummer Street home.

John Stegall, 61, was last seen at about 4:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, leaving his home at 228 Plummer, police said.

Oil City senior patrolman Robert Culp said Friday that the Oil City Fire Department was conducting a search of the Allegheny River and the wooded area on the north side of Oil City from Plummer to Emerald streets on Friday.

“The fire department offered to do so on behalf of the police department and is working in conjunction with the police department as an extension of mutual aid,” Culp said.

Culp said police had received no word as of Friday afternoon that anything had been found in the search.

Police said Stegall is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds and has gray hair. He was last seen wearing black sweatpants, camouflage slippers and possibly a blue or green sweatshirt, police said.

Stegall is believed to have left his home on foot, traveling to an unknown location, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oil City police at 676-3080.
