School bus struck from behind in Oil City

OIL CITY – Four people, including three students, were taken to the hospital Monday following an accident involving a school bus in Oil City.

Venango County 911 said the incident took place about 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Plummer Street and Cooper Avenue.

Oil City police chief Bob Wenner said a truck struck the bus from behind, resulting in minimal damage to the bus.

Oil City Area School District superintendent Pat Gavin said the three students taken for medical treatment did not suffer significant injuries and were transported primarily for precautionary reasons.

Wenner said the students complained of general pain in the neck and lower back.

Gavin said all the remaining students were placed on a different bus and taken to the high school.

Wenner said the driver of the vehicle that hit the bus also received medical treatment, but no update was available on the patient’s condition.

Oil City police and firefighters and Community Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
