The Rocky Grove High School state championship baseball team was formally recognized at Monday’s Valley Grove School Board meeting.

High school principal Edward Baumcratz began the special recognition of achievement by addressing the team and asking them to bring all the trophies they won this season to the front of the room.

Baumcratz announced the school’s front trophy case will be dedicated to the team’s achievements this year and will prominently feature the Orioles’ PIAA Class 2A championship trophy. He then recognized the team’s coaches for spending “countless hours” preparing the team for victory.

Baumcratz went on to announce the team members’ names, starting with the seniors, and handed them certificates of recognition.

The team then posed for a picture with their trophies, coaches and school board president Melanie Anderson.

In some other business Monday, two new teachers, Tara Anderson and Kylie Mason, were hired and welcomed to the district.

Anderson will teach social studies and Mason will teach art.

Teachers were also recognized for donating more than $300 toward sponsoring the Venango County Fair. The donation made it possible for nine more awards to be purchased.
