Sandycreek students participate in comfort bear workshop

Sandycreek

Sandycreek Elementary School sixth graders Carson Wible and Rachel Smith write inspirational messages to attach to comfort bears for a holiday distribution to an area nursing home. Wible, Smith and their fellow sixth graders participated in the fourth annual Kids Care Chemo-Comfort Bear workshop. The service day was started in 2012 as a pay-it-forward by Wendy Weiss, who is a breast cancer survivor and local pharmacist. After receiving similar messages of hope, from children at an elementary school in eastern Pennsylvania, included in a package from the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, Weiss developed a program with her son’s then sixth-grade class. This year the focus was on comfort bears for a holiday distribution to an area nursing home. The students will also participate in the distribution of the bears to the residents.
