A Rimersburg woman was killed Wednesday morning in a one-vehicle crash on Route 322 in Cranberry Township.

The accident was one of several in the overnight and early morning hours Wednesday caused by “black ice,” according to Venango County 911.

Franklin state police said Joyce M. Ferris, 50, was headed east on Route 322 near Maple Shade Road about 6:45 a.m. when her 2009 Ford Ranger XLT began to fishtail. The vehicle then left the roadway and rolled onto its drivers side before striking a tree with the roof, police said.

Ferris was found deceased as a result of her injuries, police said.

Seneca Volunteer firefighters and Community Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.

Dispatchers from Venango County 911 attributed several other crashes to black ice from fog freezing on the roadway.
