Proclamation by Franklin mayor honors Clemente

From staff reports

Franklin Mayor Doug Baker has proclaimed Saturday, June 23, as Roberto Clemente Car Day in the city.

The proclamation is in conjunction with the day Clemente’s 1972 Dodge Charger, which he earned as the 1971 World Series Most Valuable Player, will be on display in the Franklin Junior-Senior High School auditorium from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

According to Baker’s proclamation, the honor is due in part to his baseball achievements over 18 seasons as a player with the Pittsburgh Pirates and his humanitarian work.

Baker is asking anyone who wants to honor the late Hall of Famer that day to wear Clemente or Pirates apparel throughout the day.
