The popular 1968 Oil City film has been re-issued and will be available for purchase during the Oil Heritage Festival.

“We know there are many class reunions held during the festival and so we wanted to have it on hand,” said Dave Anderton, president of the Oil City Heritage Society that sponsored the project.

The hour-long film, entitled “Our Town,” follows a newsreel format and has been converted into a DVD. It features many Oil City businesses as well as extensive footage of Oil City public schools, Venango Christian High School and more.

“It is a true time capsule,” said Anderton. “The film was discovered in the old Drake Theatre and was donated to the Heritage Society. We’ve sold more than 1,000 copies to date.”

The DVD is available at the Venango Museum, the Oil City Library and Venango Chamber of Commerce. The cost is $21.20 and all proceeds benefit the society’s pending projects as well as supports the museum, library and chamber.

A 15-page statistical overview of Oil City in 1968 is included in the DVD package.

The film will also be shown from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday on a continuous basis at the Venango Museum during Oil Heritage Festival events on the city’s North Side.
