Polk man charged with indecent assault of girl, 13

From staff reports

A Polk man is facing charges for the alleged indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl at his Valley Road home last month.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Matthew Kirtland’s office said on June 15, Jeffrey Malliard, 61, brought the girl to his home to chop wood as they had previously planned to do.

The girl waited for Malliard inside the residence as he said he was going to change clothing. When he returned, Malliard hugged the girl and touched her inappropriately on top of her clothes, the complaint said.

Malliard also tried to kiss the girl and continued to touch her. The girl told him to stop and that she wanted to be driven home, the complaint said.

As Malliard drove the girl back home, he told her to forgive him and that it was her decision to send him to jail or tell the police, the complaint said.

Malliard is facing a felony count of criminal attempt – aggravated indecent assault – complainant less than 16 and misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of person less than 16 years of age and corruption of minors.

He was arraigned before Kirtland and released after posting $50,000 bail at 10 percent.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 25 in Central Court.
