Police say intruder charged after found in closet of OC home

A Pleasantville man is facing felony charges after he was found in an Oil City residence without permission to be there.

A criminal complaint filed by Oil City police says Jason Kennelley, 41, was found sitting on a chair inside a closet in the kitchen of a Hone Avenue house by the home’s occupants when they woke up Thursday morning.

The occupants said they determined their wallet had been gone through and items including $200 in cash, bank cards and identification were removed, the complaint said. Keys to the house were missing, according to the complaint.

The occupants made Kennelley leave the house and then found him digging in the garden outside the home, according to the complaint.

At that point they found he had a plastic baggie with drug paraphernalia, the complaint said. They obtained the paraphernalia from him and shut themselves in the house, according to the complaint.

Kennelley proceeded to kick and damage the back door before fleeing the scene on a bicycle, the complaint said.

The occupants of the house told police Kennelley didn’t have permission to be in the house or remove items from the home, the complaint said.

Oil City police made contact with Kennelley, and he admitted entering the residence but denied taking any items from the wallet, the complaint said.

When police searched Kennelley they found the bank card and multiple keys belonging to the occupants, the complaint said.

Kennelley was taken into custody and charged with felony counts of burglary-overnight accommodation-person present and criminal trespass-enter structure, misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking of movable property and use/possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary count of criminal mischief.

He was arraigned Thursday before district judge Andrew Fish and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail.

Kennelley’s preliminary hearing is scheduled Dec. 4 in Central Court.
