Police investigating deaths of 2 women

From staff reports

Franklin state police are investigating the separate deaths of two women in Scrubgrass Township and Sugarcreek Borough over the weekend.

Police said a 50-year-old woman died of a potential prescription medication overdose between 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday at her home on Oliphant Road in Scrubgrass Township. No signs of foul play existed, police said.

A 40-year-old woman was found to have died between 4:30 and 8 a.m. Sunday in the bedroom of her home on Sugarcreek Drive in Sugarcreek Borough, police said.

Multiple state police officers responded to the scene to initiate the investigation, and due to the sensitivity of the case, no further details have been released to the public, police said.

Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh said an autopsy will be performed Tuesday to determine a cause of death for the Sugarcreek Borough woman. Rugh said she was uncertain if the death was drug-related.

Both investigations are continuing.
