Pitt-Titusville students honored in Student Life Awards ceremony

From staff reports

Several students from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville were recognized during the 26th annual Student Life Awards ceremony Wednesday, which was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the awards ceremony, which was sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, students were recognized in several categories: student organization leadership, service within residence life, athletics and achievement.

The Student Leadership Award is given annually to a second-year student who has made outstanding contributions to student life at Pitt-Titusville. This year the campus honored Alyssa Colsher, a pre-nursing major from Reading, and Janet Sabol, a nursing major from Union City. The award recipients were selected based on campus nominations for their involvement and leadership in student organizations.

Jade Kelsey, a criminal justice major from Punxsutawney, was honored as the resident assistant with the highest GPA during the fall term.

Student organizations recognizing members at the event were the American Chemical Society, Cheerleaders, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Activities Board, and the Student Organization of the Nursing Program.

Phi Theta Kappa inducted five new members into its national honor society. Three of the organization’s officers inducted the new members for their scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship, which are hallmarks of the honor society.

The new Phi Theta Kappa members are Athena Lamey, a pre-nursing major, Jerime Sampson, a pre-nursing major, Karen Sornson, a psychology major, and Roxanna VanWormer, a pre-nursing major, all from Titusville; and Sarah Wright, a natural science major from Corry.

The athletes were recognized for their contribution to student life on the volleyball and basketball courts.

Alexandria Miller, a pharmacy major from Cambridge Springs, and Alyssa Colsher, a pre-nursing major from Reading, were recognized for being named to the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference All Conference Team for volleyball.

Izaiah Dickerson, a business major from Washington, D.C., and Simeal Wofford, an undeclared major from Erie, were recognized for being named to the WPCC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team.

The WPCC recognizes athletes for their academic achievements as well each term.
