From staff reports

PennDOT’s traveling workers memorial is on display at PennDOT’s Venango County maintenance building at 1460 Pittsburgh Road in Franklin.

The memorial will remain in Franklin until Tuesday, April 3.

The memorial includes 88 posts, one for each PennDOT employee who died in the line of duty since 1970, including Robert E. Gensimore of Blair County.

Gensimore died earlier this year after being struck by a vehicle as he was setting flares at a crash site.

The display was created by PennDOT employees to draw attention to the need for safe driving through work zones. Each post in the memorial is topped with hard hat and draped in safety vest and bears the name of an employee, as well as the month and year of their death.

It was brought to Venango County in conjunction for an employee safety training held in preparation for the upcoming construction and maintenance season. Members of the public may park in the front lot of the PennDOT building and walk to the yard to view the memorial.
