Parade will honor Valley Grove elementary students

Valley Grove Elementary School is holding a parade today to send students into summer break.

“It’s kind of a bittersweet ending to the school year, but it’s something to give the teachers, kids, everyone that final closure for the school year,” Tessa Simmons, the assistant principal at Valley Grove Elementary, said.

Simmons said parents and students can arrive between 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the elementary school parking lot. She said everyone will remain in their vehicles as they follow the parade route that will be lined with staff members from the elementary school.

“They can just drive up, take a little cruise around and wave good-bye to everyone,” Simmons said.

Simmons said typically the elementary school employees would “clap out” as the students left on the last day of school.

“We didn’t really get to have that final closure with the kids,” Simmons said. “We thought this would be a nice safe alternative to that.”

A rain date for the parade if needed would be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
