OC school board sets special meeting Sunday to discuss COVID models

From staff reports

The Oil City School Board has scheduled a special meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Oil City High School auditorium.

Information sent to the newspaper indicated the meeting was called by board president Joe McFadden, and the purpose of the gathering is discussion regarding instructional models related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board voted 6-3 earlier this week to send all district students back to school in person on Monday.

A post on the district’s Facebook page Friday said a maximum of 10 district residents and/or staff members could sign up Friday afternoon to speak at Sunday’s meeting. That was the same format the district used for the special meeting earlier this week.

The time limit for each speaker is three minutes, and the Facebook post said additional requests to speak may be accepted by the board through a motion at Sunday’s meeting.

Any individual who isn’t given the opportunity to speak on Sunday will be provided the chance to address the board at its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday.

The vote this week to return to full in-person instruction was 6-3 with Fred Weaver, Jim Disque, Joe McFadden, Stephen Kelley, Tyler Johnson and Shari Neely casting the yes votes. Mark Kerr, Jon Piercy and Diana Davis voted no.

The 10 district residents or staff members who spoke at this week’s meeting were all in favor of a return to in-person learning, and those present applauded the board after the vote.
