OC man wanted by police apprehended in President Township

From staff reports

An Oil City man wanted by police in connection with a domestic dispute over the weekend was apprehended around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at a President Township residence.

Charles Davis, 34, was wanted following a physical altercation with his girlfriend at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday at a Pearl Avenue apartment in Oil City.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Patrick Lowrey’s office said Oil City police arrived at the apartment and could hear a man yelling inside. Davis tried twice to escape through second-story windows when police announced their presence, the complaint said.

He was later detained on the front porch but managed to flee from the residence, the complaint said.

Davis’ girlfriend told police that an argument had turned physical, and Davis had thrown her to the floor, pulled her up by her hair and slammed her against the wall. She said he also choked her and threatened to kill her, the complaint said.

On Tuesday, Davis was arrested by Venango County sheriff’s deputies during the service of a protection from abuse order in President Township. He tried to flee from deputies but was apprehended without further incident, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

When deputies searched Davis, they found drug paraphernalia in his possession. He is now facing additional charges for the paraphernalia items discovered, the release said.

Davis is facing a felony count of strangulation and misdemeanor counts of unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, simple assault and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned and placed in the Venango County jail. Bail was denied as Davis is considered a threat to society, according to online court documents.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday in Central Court.
