New warden named at Venango County jail

From staff reports

A new prison warden was appointed to the Venango County jail at a special meeting of the prison board Monday.

Kelly McKenzie was appointed as the new warden and will take up his duties Feb. 1, Venango County Sheriff Eric Foy said.

McKenzie has been employed at the Venango County jail for 28 years and most recently has held the position of chief deputy warden, Foy said.

The vote was six to one with Foy casting the nay vote.

“There are a lot of background issues. I felt the position needed to be advertised for. It was nothing personal,” Foy said.

The current warden, Jeffrey Ruditus, is retiring.
